Slough Homes Benefit from External Wall Insulation

SERS and Slough Borough Council is nearing completion of a major £3.6 million contract to fit external wall insulation to 358 homes.

SERS teams have installed external solid wall insulation to properties throughout Slough. Work commenced in October 2013 for a 12-month programme to insulate these non-traditional properties. The work will help residents cut down their fuel bills by hundreds of pounds a year.

The work was designed and project managed by specialist housing consultancy Michael Dyson Associates Ltd of Holmfirth, West Yorkshire.

SERS director Geoff Thomas said the work, as well as saving money on fuel bills, has dramatically improved the external appearance of the properties, with a pebble-dash finish and header course brick detailing below the windows, and is having a positive impact on the community as a whole.

“The improvement work will help make houses easier and cheaper to heat, help homes stay warm for longer, and generally improve living conditions for the residents concerned. They will certainly notice the difference this coming winter,” he said.

The large-scale programme of work has been carried out under the Energy Company Obligation programme, which was aimed at improving home energy use, reducing fuel bills and tackling fuel poverty.
