SERS Takes BRE Guide on the Road

A comprehensive guide to home insulation produced by SERS and the Building Research Establishment is to tour the country.

SERS and the BRE have jointly published the Good Practice Guide to Solid Wall Insulation, aimed at architects, building consultants, planners, surveyors and installers.

Now the definitive guide is to be the centrepiece of a series of SERS roadshows at events and exhibitions around the country.

The SERS roadshows will take in venues in England, Scotland and Wales between now and the end of November, presenting the best practice guide to local authority representatives, housing associations, architects, builders and homeowners.

We have already presented at two successful seminars in Aberystwyth and Cardiff. SERS will return to Aberystwyth on October 22, presenting at the Ceredigion Building Exhibition run by Ceredigion County Council at its civic offices.

Before that event the SERS roadshow will be at the Repair, Refurb, Retrofit exhibition at the Swallow Hotel in Glasgow on October 2 and the South West Wales Building Exhibition at the Ivy Bush Royal Hotel in Carmarthen on October 21.

After Aberystwyth the SERS roadshow moves to the Gloucestershire Building Exhibition at Cheltenham’s Abbey Stadium on October 23, South Devon Build at the Toorak Hotel in Torquay on November 11 and North Devon Build at the Best Western Hotel, Tiverton on November 12.

The roadshow then moves to Bristol on November 13 for the Repair Refurb Retrofit exhibition at Fry’s Club, Keynsham, Bristol, the South Coast Building Exhibition at Bournemouth FC’s Seward Stadium on November 18, and Pompey Build at Portsmouth FC’s Fratton Park Stadium on November 19.

The events are organised by DCE (Direct Contact Exhibitions) aimed at building and construction professionals and anyone associated with them.

The Building Research Establishment produces impartial research, expert knowledge and advice for the built environment sector.

The detailed report covers a wide range of issues affecting solid wall insulation including assessing suitability, identifying which type of insulation is suitable for a property, correct installation guidelines, the impact of humidity and weather, the effects of thermal bridging and ventilation, aesthetics and property values, maintenance and inspection, as well as training for surveyors and installers.

SERS director Mike Roberts said the report was one of the most comprehensive guides to solid wall insulation ever published and would help surveyors and installers understand the issues to be considered, and avoid pitfalls in specifying and installing.
